Two interesting stats were reported yesterday and today regarding new home sales and existing home sales. For new home sales, numbers jumped by 16.2 percent...but prices dropped significantly. For existing home sales, the numbers fell by 2.6 percent last month AND prices fell by .08 percent from a year ago. I heard some folks yesterday talking about the housing slump being over because new home sales were "taking off". However, slashing prices to stimulate sales doesn't really count for a "take off"...and in fact will have a lasting impact on the price of future sales. Add to that the stagnant numbers for existing home sales, and you can see the slump is still slumpin'.
